How to Speak about Death (FCC) Week 1

This series of courses related to grief and death are being offered through Frederick Community College’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR). ILR courses are designed with seniors in mind, but all are welcome!

On Sept. 9, we will discuss the struggles of speaking about death, including our own and others’ death anxieties. Likewise we will discuss the goals and reasons for speaking about death. We will use our understanding of the common anxieties around death to develop thoughtful and compassionate ways of speaking about death.

This course is a series of individual education sessions around grief, loss, and death planning. Students may choose to attend all sessions, or to attend just the weeks covering topics of particular interest. Individual sessions will vary each term and could include the following topics: how to speak about death, death planning, understanding grief, managing political grief, grief of memory loss and dementia.
