About
Kendra Speicher-Eisenstark
I founded the Center for Counseling and Applied Thanatology because death is bigger than just making funeral arrangements, and grief impacts every corner of our lives. I came to this work after a whole career in corporate America where I managed a team of people across four international offices, built systems, and learned a whole hell of a lot. When Covid-19 pulled us all into lock-down, and people around the world began to die in large numbers, corporate and financial due diligence began to feel less meaningful and I imagined a network of support where people could learn about, plan for, and manage death with supportive people.
My own early life experiences included a lot of death, and while that was isolating as a young person, it made me better equipped than most to sit with others’ grief and to encounter death and dying without fear.
I don’t believe in quick, simple fixes. I believe in the value of depth, challenging ourselves to get comfortable with the uncomfortable, and the incredible growth that comes from moving through the things we tend to avoid. I believe that the power of therapy is in doing this work with someone you can trust and with someone who is committed to seeing you through it with genuine awe for what it takes.
