Death Planning

Death planning means something different to every individual and family. For some, it means making arrangements in advance for a funeral and getting all the paperwork in order for an easy transfer of finances. For others, it involves medical power of attorney and coordinating care. Death planning might be all or none of these things. In any case, CCAT is available to support and assist.

Later Impacts

The impact of a death does not begin and end at the moment of that loss. Death impacts friends and family in emotional and practical ways. Both death planning and Doula work might extend into these periods of grief, mourning, and reconsolidation. Likewise, many people find themselves in grief without the structure of a plan. The dying person may have been unable, or even unwilling, to create a plan for the practical matters of a funeral, body disposal, and dispersment of assets. In these cases, too, CCAT is available.

Death Doula

A Death Doula is a person who is familiar with the dying process and who works with a dying person to create a comfortable and meaningful transition. Doulas are not medical professionals, so we do not administer medications. Instead, we work alongside other professionals to advocate for the desires of the person dying. This might mean creating a physically cozy space, communicating with other professionals and family members, and/or sitting with the person for their transition into death.
