Speaking at the CSJ Conference

I am honored and excited to be co-presenting at the Counselors for Social Justice Conference in Puerto Rico next month (April 2025). My co-presenter Dr. Shannon Shoemaker and I will be discussing the impact of hormones on the counseling process.

Specifically, we will be introducing the incredible field of Psychoneuroendocrinology to the world of Counseling. Psychoneuroendocrinology studies the impact of hormones on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Since counseling is rooted in the idea of helping clients to improve their lives (their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), it makes sense that we learn from this exciting discipline.

Our presentation focuses on the specific impact of cycling hormones, and what that can tell us about the cycles of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These cycles influence our moods, cognition, attention, and more. As counselors, understanding both the natural cycles of our clients as well as our own natural cycles could have profound impacts on the work we do.
